Package Manager

The Tizen Studio provides the Package Manager, a comprehensive management tool for installing, updating, and removing packages and tools. This section describes the GUI version of the Package Manager.

Any time Tizen Studio is running, you can launch the Package Manager:

  • On Windows®, select Start > All Programs > Tizen Studio > Tools > Package Manager
  • On Mac OS® X, select Launchpad > Package Manager
  • On Ubuntu, select Dashboard Home > Package Manager

The Package Manager manages the packages and tools used by all Tizen Studio programs.  Platforms consist of collections of packages and tools that contain necessary files, meta-data, and installation and removal scripts. Each package has complicated dependencies on other packages. The Package Manager offers an easy and simple way to manage platforms and tools without dealing with complicated package dependencies.

After installing Tizen Studio using the installer, there can be updates available for installed packages. If you are connected to the network and the installed packages and tools are not the latest versions, the  button appears. To ensure system integrity among all platforms in Tizen Studio, the Package Manager makes necessary updates for all affected packages and tools.

To update all currently installed packages to their latest versions, click Updates available

The Package Manager UI contains 3 icons:

  • To access guides to help you deal with frequently occurring issues, click the [left question mark icon]
to open the Inside Trouble Shooting
     window.
  • To change settings regarding package repository and proxy options, click the [middle gear icon]
  • To review fundamental package management information (such as the version of the Package Manager, the installation path, the package repository URL, the distribution name, and the package snapshot), click the [right information icon]

The main contains 3 tabs:

  • In the Main SDK tab, you can:
    • Filter the listed packages based on their associated device, by turning each device-type filter on (colored) or off (grayed-out):

   Mobile device packages and tools

   Wearable device packages and tools

  • The View installed packages checkbox controls the listing of: only packages that are already installed, or all available packages whether or not they are installed.
  • Review information about, install, and remove platforms and their packages and tools.

  • In the Extension SDK tab, you can:
    • Install and remove extension SDKs (such as, the Certification Extension and other extra packages for platforms).
    • Install and remove certificate and wearable extension.

  • In the Progress tab, you can:
    • Monitor the progress of installing, removing, and updating packages.
    • Cancel an install or update process that is in-progress.
