Step 2: Create the Main Scene

In this step, you will create the main scene.

For other steps in this exercise, see Exercise 3: Connect Two Scenes.

To create the main scene:

  1. From the Unity menu, select File > Save Scene as.

  1. From the Save Scene dialog box that appears, name your file Main.unity and save it to the /Assets/Workshop/Scenes folder in your Unity project.

  1. From the Hierarchy view, select the Box_Inv and Logo_1 objects, right click on them, and select Delete.

  1. From the Project view, open the /Assets/Workshop/Meshes folder and drag the Sphere_Inv object into the Hierarchy view. The Sphere_Inv object is an inverted sphere mesh that you will use to house the background of your main scene. When your app is complete, you will be able to cycle through a series of 360° images displayed on the sphere.

  1. From the Inspector view, go to the Mesh Renderer component. Expand the Materials section, and then drag the /Assets/Workshop/Materials/Main_Sphere.mat file into the Element 0 field.

  1. From the Hierarchy view, select Create > Create Empty

  1. From the Inspector view, change the object's name to Buttons. Press Enter to save the change.

  1. Objects can be difficult to place in an exact location when added to a scene. From the Inspector view, go to the Transform component, click the Gear icon, and select Reset. This will place the object at (0, 0, 0).

  1. From the Project view, open the /Assets/Workshop/Meshes folder and drag the Button_Advance.FBX file onto the Buttons object in the Hierarchy view.

  1. From the Inspector view, set the following Transform property values:
    • Position: (1.2, 0, 10)
    • Rotation: (-90, -180, 0)

  1. From the Mesh Renderer component, expand the Materials branch. Locate the Element 0 field and select the Target button to select a material.

  1. From the Select Material window, type button in the search field and select the Button_0_Trim material from the results. The Element 0 field will update in the Inspector view.

  1. Repeat Steps 11-12 to add the Button_1_Recess material to the Mesh Renderer > Materials > Element 1 field.

  1. From the Hierarchy view, right-click the Button_Advance object and select Duplicate.

  1. From the Inspector view, change the name of the second Button_Advance (1) object to Button_Decrement.

  1. Set the following Transform property values:
    • Position: (-1.2, 0, 10)
    • Scale: (-1, 1, 1)

  1. From the Project view, open the /Assets/Workshop/Prefabs folder and drag the Button_Slideshow file onto the Buttons object in the Hierarchy view.

  1. From the Inspector view, make sure the following Transform values are set:
    • Position: (0, 0, 10)
    • Rotation: (-90, -180, 0)

  1. From the Hierarchy view, multi-select the Button_Advance, Button_Decrement, and Button_Slideshow objects.

  1. From the Inspector view, click the Add Component button and select Physics > Mesh Collider

  1. Save the scene.
