Discover Edge Apps

Create and market your own Edge applications for Samsung smart devices. Edge(Look) offers specialized widgets and service components for extended functions of the Samsung Android devices.

You can create Edge apps of the following types:

  • Edge Single Plus 

  • Edge Single

  • Edge Feeds (deprecated in Samsung S7)

  • Edge Immersive (deprecated in Android 7.0 Nougat)

Edge Single Plus and Single Panels

Edge Single Plus panel apps:

  • Are supported by the Edge devices: S8+, S8, S7, and S6+ or S6 with Android OS L or later.
  • Can be of any width supported by the device.
  • Can display static or dynamic content (text and graphics). 
  • Can contain actionable UI elements.

Edge Single panel apps:

  • Are supported by the Edge devices: S6+ and S6 (any Android OS), and Note 4 Edge.
  • Are of fixed width (160 pixels).
  • Can display static or dynamic content (text and graphics).
  • Can contain actionable UI elements.

 

You can:

  • Develop and build Edge panel and feed apps:
    • That operate independently of any other app (standalone Edge apps).
    • That operate in association with an Android app (companion Edge apps).
  • Market these Edge panel and feed apps:
    • Each as a single, standalone Edge app.
    • Each as a single, companion Edge app of an associated Android app.
    • As multiple Edge apps of the same type bundled together that are either standalone or are companions of an associated Android app.
      Multiple standalone Edge apps are marketed as one product.
      Companion Edge app(s) and their Android app are marketed as one product.
    • Through the Galaxy Apps store or other app stores.
       

Your users can:

  • Make one or more downloaded Edge panel or feed apps (either standalone or companion) available for display.
  • Whenever the display screen is active:
    • Swipe-select the active curved screen of the Edge device to sequentially display any available Edge panel.
    • Tap panel elements to initiate actions when enabled by your app.

 

Edge Feeds

Note: Edge Feed was deprecated in Samsung S7.

  • Are supported by the Edge devices: S7 and S6+ and S6 (any Android OS).
  • Are a fixed width.
  • Can display static or dynamic content (text and graphics). 
  • Can contain actionable UI elements.

 

You can:

  • Develop and build Edge feed apps:
    • That operate independently of any other app (standalone Edge feed apps).
    • That operate in association with an Android app (companion Edge feed apps).
  • Market these Edge feed apps:
    • Each as a single, standalone Edge app.
    • Each as a single, companion Edge app of an associated Android app.

Note: Edge Immersive was deprecated in Android 7.0 Nougat. Only the Samsung Note 4 Edge device supports Edge Immersive panels.

  • Are supported by Note Edge devices.
  • Are a fixed width.
  • Are available to the user when the app displays the panel.
  • Can display static or dynamic content (text and graphics). 
  • Can contain actionable UI elements.

 

You can:

  • Develop and build Edge Immersive apps to operate in association with an Android app.
  • Market Edge Immersive panel apps:
    • Bundled with its associated Android app as one product.
    • Through the Galaxy Apps store or other app stores.
       

Your users can:

  • Make the associated Android app active.
  • When the Android app displays the Edge Immersive panel:
    • Review panel content.
    • Tap panel elements to initiate actions enabled by your app.
