Look Edge UX

You can  design Edge panel and feed apps that provide your users easy access to information and features in your Edge app, in the internet, and from your Android apps.

Edge panels and feeds provide the following.

Quick_EdgePanels.PNG

Edge panels and feeds provide glanceable and actionable information:

  • Items specified by your app
  • Items selected by your users, such as favorite app or contacts, which users can add, move, and delete
  • Text, such as labels
  • Information icons, such as weather symbols
  • Content streams, such as news, sports, and ticker information
  • Click events, such as app icons or text buttons

After users download your Edge panel or feed standalone app(s), or download your Android app with companion app(s) or an Edge Immersive panel, the Samsung device manages the operation and UX of your Edge panels and feeds (such as opening, closing, and managing Edge content item display and actions).

Your users can control the position of Edge panels or feeds, as well as the position of moveable panel items. Depending on the Edge item content your app specifies for an Edge panel, your users can control Edge item content (for example, their frequently used apps or frequent contacts).

Single Plus Panels, Single Panels, and Feeds

These types of panels and feeds:

  • Are an overlay widget, which allows users to access their information and features at any time without opening apps.
  • Are a Quick controller, which allows users to control tasks without opening apps.
  • Can either: operate independently of any other app (standalone Edge apps), or they can be associated and bundled with an Android app (companion Edge apps).
  • When an APK contains multiple Edge panels or feeds, they must be of the same type (Edge Single Plus panels, Edge Single panels, Edge feeds).

For these types of panels and feeds, Look Edge manages:

  • User actions (activating and selecting panels; tapping panel items; and adding, moving, and deleting user-selectable panel items)
  • Displaying user-selected panels
  • Acting on user selections

Refreshing panel and feed item content:

  • Edge can automatically refresh item content:
    • Before the Edge panel or feed is displayed.
    • When your users add or move panel or feed items in the Edge control screen.
    • Periodically, per Edge app configuration.

  • Your app can:
    • Refresh item content at any time, as needed.
    • Enable users to refresh item content on demand by app-specified methods.
